Optical Technician

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs a variety of duties in the electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, and/or optical areas. Constructs, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, diagnoses, and maintains equipment, components, devices, or systems. Works from schematics, engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions. Operates related equipment; conducts tests and reports data in prescribed format. Performs calibration and alignment checks; makes adjustments, modifications, and replacements as directed; prepares prescribed compounds and solutions. Exclude technicians working in production or quality assurance. |
Qualifications and requirements:
- Building and testing of various laser components (optical, mechanical, and electrical) in support of engineering development and pilot production.
- The engineering technician will work closely with other technicians and engineers in executing tasks that could include cable harness assembly, sub-assembly & box level assembly / test, thermal testing, fiber optic splicing, and other similar assembly and test tasks both in the R&D labs and on the pilot production line.
- The engineering technician will also support the upkeep of the labs including ordering consumable supplies, tracking calibrated equipment, and other similar tasks.
- Experience in wire harness build and routing.
- Mechanical assembly history and familiarity with electrical systems and circuit boards.
- Attention to detail, good interpersonal skills, ability to multitask, good organizational skills, computer literacy, and a demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment.
Ability to read blue prints, schematics, and drawings and following verbal and written instructions. - Experience reading work instructions and performing tasks as per instructions.
- Educational background and/or experience in electronics or optics. Experience running, testing, and measuring lasers or complex optical systems.
- Exceptional lab skills: ability to prototype, test, and debug electronics
- Experience in handling fiber, fiber splicing equipment including fiber polishing equipment.
- Experience in testing analog, power electronics, RF, and digital circuits.

IPC solder certification preferred but not required. - Must be willing to work overtime (as requested).
- Must have reliable transportation to and from the job site.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
