Avionics Supervisor

 

LAUNCH Technical Workforce Solutions is seeking an Avionics Supervisor for an opportunity in Des Moines, Iowa.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

 

With advanced knowledge and high level of skill supervises the avionics team in all aspects of aircraft installation and repairs to include troubleshooting support, final systems checkout, final run-up checkout, and certification/test flying. Provides support to all departments with avionics and electrical troubleshooting on various airframes. Provides training and OJT to technicians.

  • Effectively lead/direct team to deliver customer aircraft on time, on budget, and squawk free.
  • Develop and maintain an efficient/high performing team to achieve goal hour objectives.
  • Coordinate the proper application of workforce for each job to satisfy scheduling requirements.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of all assigned work orders for the department and presentation of work order upon completion of a project ready to close to Manager for final review before being invoiced.
  • Ensure that all completed assigned tasks have been inspected in accordance with the repair station manual.
  • Daily monitoring of the work in progress to assure that labor and materials are applied to each work order properly.
  • Ensure customer communication for all assigned shop activity.
  • Daily review of employee timecards for accuracy.
  • Participate in the selection, performance management, and performance review process for all team members with the Manager.
  • Provide OJT to junior technicians.
  • Provide expert level of advice and troubleshooting to technicians, customers, and engineering for all aspects of avionics and electrical systems.
  • Perform function test flights of newly installed avionics equipment as well as existing equipment to evaluate for troubleshooting purposes.
  • Become main point of contact for modifications team for technical questions and concerns.
  • Works closely with Department Manager and Team Leaders to develop, coordinate, standardize and implement new and existing procedures that promote continuous improvements in efficiency and quality.
  • Assists the Department Manager in evaluating equipment and tooling needed for avionics installations and troubleshooting.
  • Supports, maintains, and complies with all environmental, health and safety federal, OSHA, state, and local regulations
  • Work with Quality Control and Engineering on all required documents.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Airframe & Power plant Certificate and/or FCC License preferred
  • Ability to attain & retain AOA badge or Airport requirements
  • Ability to manage a team with both experienced technicians and mentor junior technicians with a calm demeanor.
  • Ability to communicate well, in advanced/complex situations
  • Organizational skills and attention to details
  • Ability to maintain a safe and clean work environment
  • Possess excellent mechanical aptitude and a desire to initiate improvements within defined boundaries
  • Routinely lifts to 10 lbs., occasionally lifts to 50 lbs.
  • Stands for periods of time, with frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, and stooping
  • Uses hands to reach and feel, with repetitive motion
  • Good finger dexterity
  • Reads, writes, speaks, and understands English fluently
  • Visual acuity correctable to 20/20
  • Works in confined spaces, extreme temperatures, heights above six feet, noisy environments, and flight
  • Works with and around products and materials associated with aircraft maintenance
  • Ability to wear required PPE
  • Regularly scheduled attendance required
  • Must be able to work various shifts and overtime as needed
  • Occasional overnight and short notice travel
  • Associate Degree in related field or equivalent required
  • Bachelors or Graduate Degree preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of FARs 43, 91, 135, 145
  • Five plus years related avionics installation and repair experience required
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience required
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from the job site.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
