SUMMARY

The Quality & CMM Lead ensures the quality and integrity of all products produced, along with ensuring compliance to customer requirements. Conducts origination inspection of incoming parts and supplies used for manufacture of products. Functions as an information source when special and critical quality issues occur. This position is responsible to work in a cross functional environment utilizing, programming, and enforcing knowledge and best practices of a CMM machine with PC-DMIS, and eventually CMM Manager functionality

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Inspect materials received, work in process, and finished products to ensure conformance to purchase order requirements, manufacturing, and process specifications. Inspect products using gauges, coordinate measuring machine, scales, oscilloscope and vision prior to shipment. Generate spreadsheets for data collection. Reconcile final inspection documentation for shipments.

  • Verify physical properties and size of materials such as plates, sheets, structural shapes, etc. to include hardness and conductivity as per customer specifications.
  • Follow established procedures to perform receiving inspections.
  • Follow established procedures to initiate nonconforming materials reports for customer or internal disposition.
  • Notify Manager of any discrepancies.
  • Examine machined parts to ensure conformance with customer purchase order requirements and specifications.
  • Verify all documentation.
  • Use inspection tools, blueprints, customer data, and process specifications to identify quality parts.
  • Follow established procedures to initiate nonconforming materials reports for customer or internal disposition.
  • Provide feedback to Management on non-conformance.
  • Provide documentation pertaining to part specification compliance at prescribed levels of manufacturing operations.
  • Ensure proper documentation of machining dimensions, process certs, assembly specs and part identification.
  • Perform accurate shop management transactions to record activity.
  • Monitor and document first articles accurately.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of customer specifications.
  • Interpret customer purchase orders and demonstrate knowledge of established procedures.
  • Identify customer acronyms
  • The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to complete reports and present information and respond to questions.
  • CMM Manager software and the use of standard precision measuring tools.
  • Provide First Run Verification, Final Inspection, Corrective Action Investigation, and FAI Reports as required.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Very good organizational skills and the ability to understand technical specifications. Basic understanding of material management and testing.
  • Knowledge of Epicor software; Excel Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position shares dual responsibility to oversee quality inspection personnel.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is in an operational manufacturing plant. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to manufacturing environments for a periodic extend work days to include; exposure to moving mechanical parts, loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, fumes and/or airborne particles, vibration, bright light and slippery conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be very loud.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands/fingers to handle/feel; reach with hands and arms; climb; balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; crawl; reach; pull; balance; carry; handle. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Ability to walk and stand on concrete surfaces for significant amount of time during work day.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position during the day shift. Hours/days of work will fluctuate as needed and required.

TRAVEL

No Travel is expected for this position.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 7 years of Manufacturing Quality Control Inspection experience in a Lead Role, preferably in on complex aerospace and/or energy parts.
  • Must be capable of efficiently performing in process and final inspections on machined components with high accuracy.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in Quality Inspection in Aerospace Manufacturing
  • ISO9001 or AS9100 experience preferred
  • Ability to read/write/speak and understand English while performing required tasks, in emergencies or other situations to promote safety and/or cooperative work assignments.
