Stress Engineer

 

LAUNCH Technical Workforce Solutions is seeking a Stress Engineer for an opportunity in Little Rock, Arkansas.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Responsible for being the point of contact of all technical stress activities in assigned area, for technical stress project teams in assigned area, for representing the department or organization while interacting with other senior personnel (internal / external) related to the assigned subject matter, for supporting stress engineering team activities (design reviews, stress analysis, tests, certification) for interior accommodations final strength substantiation, for performing stress analysis (hand calculations or FE analysis), writing and checking the stress notes before final validation and test plans, for witnessing and/or conducting tests, writing follow-up reports on test outcome as required and for participating in studies and suggesting improvements in order to reduce cost and reduce weight.

  • Guide and direct team Stress Engineers and Stress Engineers to achieve satisfactory outcome of structural design problems and final substantiation.
  • “CRITICAL” Perform stress analysis through hand calculations to support FE analysis or direct FE analysis to provide comprehensive interior accommodation strength substantiation.
  • “CRITICAL” Check team stress notes before final validation.
  • “CRITICAL” Check offsite vendors stress notes before validation.
  • “CRITICAL” Assists in the evaluation of new materials and suggest test plans to ensure proper material allowables to be used for substantiation.
  • Work closely with the Design Office in order to suggest design improvements especially in terms of weight and cost reductions.
  • Demonstrate creative and mature engineering judgments in anticipating and solving stress issues for substantiation and liaison activities.
  • Recommend improvements to the stress group processes (analysis, check) to improve their efficiency.
  • Assist engineers with design issues in the area of expertise.
  • Provide support to initial reviews of customer specifications either through personal attendance or by supplying a surrogate.
  • Perform/review of design studies in the area of expertise.
  • Support design through attendance at meetings in which the subject line falls in their area of expertise.
  • Develop checklists to improve design quality to ensure design consistency across the different aircraft models in the area of expertise.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree of Science in Engineering from an accredited university or equivalent work experience can be used as a substitute with lesser degrees

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in area of applied stress engineering

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with composite material mechanics and stress substantiation

  • Strong technical skills and ability to perform classical hand calculations

  • Familiar with Finite Element Analysis in either NASTRAN, Elfini, ALGOR or other industry accepted (FEA) software

  • Strong communication skills – both verbal and written

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
