MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR CONSIDERATION
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering (Aero, Civil, Mechanical) with a strong curriculum emphasis on structural design and analysis and mechanics of materials is required.
  • Minimum 6 years total analysis experience in airframe design/repair programs.
  • MRO/Fleet Engineering experience is preferred.
  • Position requires knowledge of classical and numerical (Finite Element) stress analysis methods.
  • Capable of working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment both independently and collectively.
  • Experience in airframe design (metallic & composites), F&DT, SRM, MRB, FAR/JAR/CS/Part25, Certification, CATIA, NASTRAN, and PATRAN, is desired.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, & PowerPoint) and Google Suite (GMail, Docs, Sheets, Slides) required.
  • Team player demonstrating a positive & collaborative attitude.
  • Good interpersonal skills, flexibility and adaptability.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence effectively.
  • Dependable, self-motivated and accessible.
  • Working knowledge of all Airbus Structures preferred.
  • Knowledge of Airbus stress/fatigue manuals and tools preferred.
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability.
  • Must be able to communication effectively in English (verbal and written)
  • Conversational in French and/or German is a plus, but not required.
  • Candidate should be comfortable working for extending periods of time using computers and in an office environment.
  • Up to ~10 % Domestic and very limited possible international travel, subject to additional based on customer / project requirements

JOB DESCRIPTION – FORMATTED TO BE SHARABLE

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for a Static Stress Engineer to join our Repair Solutions department based in Wichita, Kansas.
Job Summary:
As a Static Stress Engineer you will support the airline in-service fleet on repairs of aircraft structure and is responsible for quality justifications from a static stress point of view in a timely manner. Duties include performing static analysis for both metallic and non-metallic parts while working in close collaboration with design and fatigue colleagues to provide repair solutions.  Methods include the use of both classical hand calculations and computer techniques to develop efficient repair solutions to satisfy airworthiness requirements and customers (Airlines/MROs).

 
  • Create high quality integrated and certified engineering repair solutions that are simple to routine in nature for the airlines and internal customers within given time scales.
  • Perform stress/strength analyses to assess that structural integrity requirements have been met using standard hand and computer methods. Assignments include structural sizing/documentation and subsequent certification documents for in-service fleet support.
  • Liaise with Design, Fatigue, and other appropriate Airbus departments to come up with optimum design solutions for the airline customer.
  • Liaise with Principal and Senior Static Engineers in order to ensure that methods, assumptions, data and procedures reflect on-going developments.
  • Ensure that the final repair solution brings the aircraft back into an airworthy condition.
  • Identify local improvement initiatives to increase team efficiency through process, methods, and tools improvements.
  • Ensure all tasks and activities required are executed to planned time scales.
  • Provide responses for simple to routine repair queries by giving guidance as required within Airbus Operations and Customer Services in a clear and concise manner.
  • Together with other Repair Design and Fatigue Engineers, be a member of an integrated engineering team, ensuring its strategy, policy and direction is maintained.
  • Analyze and validate metallic structures for static & fatigue strength according to validated methods.
  • Ensure adherence to regulations, relevant design principles, processes, methods, and manufacturing capabilities guidelines.
  • Define, interpret and validate tests.
  • Interface and communicate with relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide relevant input to design for the creation of drawings for manufacture and support to other functions (i.e. production, customer support) as needed.
  • Provide stress analysis for the repair/acceptance of damaged structures.
  • Perform monitoring/guidance/support of Sub-contracting firms providing structure analysis work to Airbus.
