What you can expect as a General Manager at West Star:

The General Manager (GM) position will be responsible for leading the Millville, NJ (MIV) Aircraft Base Maintenance Location and working closely with all business areas to ensure process discipline, planning, training, equipping the workforce with the right tools, and effective communication flow throughout an organization of 140+ employees.

 

You will be ESSENTIAL to many FUNCTIONS including:

  • Organizing and directing the entire MIV team.
  • Leading the organization through the implementation of operational initiatives, documented processes, metrics, and measurements to ensure aircraft are delivered on time, on budget, and defect-free to customers.
  • Focusing on continuous improvement, defect reduction, and growing a culture of process discipline.
  • Partnering with the customer and key functions in the business to respond to key business and customer requirements.
  • Ensuring work standards, policies, and processes are developed, and the workforce adheres to requirements.
  • Develop strategic manpower, equipment, and tool requirements for the organization.
  • Establishing and monitoring conformance with specifications, procedures, schedules, and safety.
  • Analyzing root causes and developing mitigating action plans on key organizational quality metrics and performing periodic reviews to ensure corrective actions achieve desired results.
  • Motivating, leading, and mentoring key staff to deliver on the company's strategic vision.
  • Fostering and maintaining a professional relationship with the customer and their site managers.
  • Managing billable and unbillable hours.
  • Managing the process for holidays and paid time off.
  • Managing the coordination between customer Planning and site maintenance performed at the location.
  • Managing the review of timecards and expenses for technicians.
  • Overseeing the management of capex expenditures, tooling, and consumables.
  • Performing annual reviews with input from Operations and Chief Inspector for all technicians and related personnel.
  • Monitoring the coordination of manpower between aircraft workloads and site supervision.
  • Reviewing work orders for completion and proper documentation.
 

What you’ll need to bring with you:
 

Your Education:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Business, Leadership, or Aircraft-related field preferred.
  • Holds a valid FAA Airframe & Powerplant License.

Your Experience:

  • 10+ years in Aircraft Maintenance, with management experience in building and leading world-class operations and organizations.
  • Experience with various models of corporate aircraft - Cessna 680A and 560XLS preferred.

Your Initiative:

  • Develop and implement a strategic vision to upgrade MIV into a consultative, continuous improvement-oriented organization.
  • Creates a process-focused atmosphere and culture that is respected by the company and customers.
  • Contributes to the development of the division's Operations strategy and operating plans to meet growth objectives.
  • Leads the MIV team to deliver high-quality aircraft to customers.
  • Ensures best practices are developed in Foreign Object & Debris (FOD), Tool control, and other programs.

Your Sense of Responsibility:

  • Leads collaborative, well-planned communications between Division Business Areas and the MIV organization.
  • Meets the goals required by customer Service Letter Agreements (SLA) on all maintenance events to return aircraft effectively and efficiently to service.
  • Solves problems with ease.
  • Ensures growth and maturation of skills and capabilities for base technicians.
  • Provides attention to detail while monitoring company e-mail traffic and technical work progress.
  • Follows and enforces all company regulations and safety policies.
  • Displays characteristics of professionalism, organization, teamwork, and flexibility.

Other Particulars:

  • Working knowledge of Corridor, Cost Accounting Management, Microsoft Office, MS Project, and similar types of desktop software applications.
  • Able to travel, work weekends, overtime, and any shift as required.
  • Understand, read, and write English.
  • Interdepartmental coordination.
  • Strong sense of urgency.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • LEAN, Six Sigma, and 5S experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and strong organizational and communication skills, both written and oral, able to work in a fast-paced environment; budget and forecasting experience.
  • Excellent analytical skills with strong business management and financial acumen.
  • Maintains transparent, performance-based communications with division, group, and corporate leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results consistent with customer commitments.
  • Demonstrated strategic and tactical leadership skills with a record of building strong, synergistic, cohesive teams.
  • A responsive, fast-paced decision-maker who is highly driven to achieve business expectations.
  • Exhibits a fact-based management style, aggressively addressing business and customers' tactical issues and strategic needs.
  • Records of excellent relationship management with peers, customers, suppliers, and regulatory agencies (like the FAA, OSHA, etc.)
  • Unquestioned credibility, judgment, and ethics.
  • The GM develops and implements "best practices" methodology, driving competitive advantage through a continuous improvement, process-based culture focused on safety, service, profitability, accuracy, and speed.
  • The GM serves as a key change agent, leading the MIV team with a special focus on people, process, and tool innovation to achieve faster turn-around time, increased quality, and cost savings.
  • He/she will effectively manage a workforce with processes in place to achieve the targets stated in all Service Agreements.
  • This position reports to the Vice President – Fleet Aircraft Maintenance, MIV & SVH and serves as the primary contact for information and communication between the customer and the company.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position typically falls between $185,000 and $200,000. Please note that the actual salary may vary and could be higher or lower depending on factors including, but not limited to, location, experience, shift, and individual performance. This pay range is part of a comprehensive compensation package, which also includes additional benefits such as health insurance, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays, and paid vacation.
