POSITION DESCRIPTION STATEMENT

Title: Material Handler

Job Code: Production Worker 1 (MPDPWK1)

Reports To: Production Manager or Long Seals Production Supervisor or Lead

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt                                                              

Pay Range: TBD

Summary:

The Material Handler ensures that the appropriate cells have the required material to

make parts according to work orders and delivery schedules. The Material Handler performs a

key connecting portion of the process between many cells and departments within operations

including the China material cell and the Shipping and Quality Control departments. The

Material Handler position requires a versatile and reliable person who will perform at a

high level of efficiency and effectiveness in meeting the demands of primarily build-to-order

production environment.

 

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:

  • Releases and issues material to work orders using SAP; pulls the needed amount of material for each order for router, water jets, chop saw, and molding and press operators
  • Communicates constantly with Long Seals, Rudders, and China production cells as well as with the Shipping and Quality departments regarding finished goods, inventory, materials, and other production-related matters
  • Ability to read and understand production order book
  • Ensures Production Workers in cells are working on orders based on highest priority
  • Locates parts and status for unfinished orders that are due that day
  • Discards and documents scrap material according to Quality Control standards
  • Moves finished goods to either storage or Shipping depending on the order due date; inventories finished goods into storage bins
  • Prepares boxing and weighing of finished goods to be shipped prior to being placed into the Shipping department
  • Restocks unused materials appropriately
  • Assists with receiving duties as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Module Manager

 

 

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma, GED, and/or proven proficiency in basic math with reading and writing is required
  • Prior production or manufacturing support experience is desired
  • Basic computer skills are required, including Microsoft Outlook and Excel; intermediate computer skills are preferred
  • A combination of relevant education and experience can be considered in lieu of exact educational and/or experience requirements

Physical Demands:

  • Sitting, standing, crouching, kneeling, bending, and/or stretching for 10-12 hours per day
  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers using repetitive pressure and squeezing, pinching/pulling with force while working with whole hand(s) or arm(s)
  • Good hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds and excess of 50 pounds using appropriate equipment
  • Ability to pass a physical capacity medical exam
  • Ability to work under variable environmental conditions within the plant, such as:
    • Temperature instability in sections of the plant;
    • Atmospheric conditions, including fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation, noise; and,
    • Exposure to oils, solvents, and other industrial chemicals
