Tool Design Engineer

Summary
The Tool Designer provides sketches and data to support the development of tooling and equipment concepts. He or She researches designs to create and revise use instructions, documents and manuals. Develops and revises basic to complex drawings and designs.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates and interfaces directly with customers, suppliers, and other entities to ensure that all customer requirements, goals and objectives are fully understood.
- Disseminates customer requirements, design change criteria, work statements, specifications, technical data, internal work order numbers and all other necessary or useful information to other design staff, project coordinator(s), structural analysis group, checking group, and to senior management as necessary.
- Participates in project status and progress reviews with other departments, senior management and customer and suppliers.
- May plan, direct, and coordinate the efforts of a tool or equipment design team or group. Coordinates with other design staff and coordinates the efforts of structural analysis and checking groups, fabrication vendors and suppliers as required to ensure that all program requirements, schedules, budgets goals, and objectives are met.
- Coordinates with fabrication vendors and suppliers, when required. Develops work-arounds as required to support budget or schedule risks and other project requirements.
- Communicates pertinent project data and information to Leads and / or project coordinator, including but not limited to tool information, schedules, work order numbers, notification of milestones, and/or final completion, data transfer, and other customer commitments.
- Ensures adherence to proper CAD data management policies and procedures.
- Responsible and accountable for design integrity and the quality assurance of documentation of all designs for which he or she is responsible.
- Is diligent to identify and define out-of-scope tasks and obtains proper budget authority from Lead or senior management prior to proceeding.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Must be proficient with personal computers, and word processing software. Must be highly organized, thorough, and possess and practice good record keeping skills.
- CAD software
- V5 CATIA software
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Associate degree or a comparable knowledge of engineering principles, concepts and practices gained through a combination of engineering courses and on-the-job experience.
- Minimum 2 years working experience in a related tool engineering environment. Requires a minimum of 3 years’ experience without a degree.
- Majority of work experience must be directly related to the design, tooling, manufacturing, and final assembly of aircraft or other flight vehicles.
- Must be a skilled operator of V5 CATIA software. Other CAD experience such as AutoCAD or Unigraphics is desirable but not required.
