Technical Illustrator

Launch is seeking a techincal illustrator for an opportunity in Indianapolis, IN.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Create simple to complex illustrations (technical line drawings) in B&W and color for a variety of supporting aircraft publications and other customer-facing product documentation, including presentations and publications for electronic tablets.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Strong ability to read and understand engineering drawings is key.
2. Collaborate with technical writers, engineers, sales personnel, warranty personnel, and a variety of customer representatives to research, design, and produce illustrations, graphics, and end-user documentation.
3. Translate technical information into clearly understandable illustrations to be used by technical and non-technical personnel.
4. Strong understanding of print layout, design, pre-press, and finishing is preferred.
5. Organize material and complete writing assignments according to set standards.
6. Take digital photographs for reference and incorporation into projects as required.
7. Quality check the documents to ensure that all requirements are met prior to submitting documents to external review and final delivery.
8. Maintain configuration control of the electronic files, as well as hard copy historical files as required.
9. Perform other related duties as assigned. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES, ETC:

1. BA Degree in graphics and/or technical arts (or a related field) or equivalent work experience
2. 3+ years’ experience as a Technical Illustrator
3. A working knowledge of the following software tools: AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite Professional (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Flash, Adobe Acrobat), and Microsoft Office Suite
4. An understanding of Adobe FrameMaker (in support of art placement)

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Demonstrated experience in creating simple to complex technical illustrations, including photo-tracing and 2D to 3D drawings from a variety of input, including CAD (isometric illustrating a plus)
2. Demonstrated experience in designing and producing documents for publishing in print and electronically
3. Demonstrated experience in eBook publishing and transfer to electronic tablet devices
4. Ability to edit documents is also highly desired
5. Excellent organizational skills
6. Ability to work independently, yet seek guidance when necessary
7. Ability to meet tight deadlines and adjust to changing priorities
