Composite Technician
LAUNCH Technical Workforce Solutions is seeking a Composite Lay-up Technician an opportunity in Orange City, Iowa.
Position Summary
The primary position covers all levels of general composites fabrication using various processes that includes: prepreg layup, Filament winding, VARTM, RTM, compression molding, utilizing press, oven and autoclave curing.
- Duties will include:
- Mold preparation
- Prepreg-Lay up
- Vacuum bagging
- Curing of composite parts
- Bonding / Assembly
- General fabrication
- Trim and drill
- Coating and finishing
Materials used include but not limited to: unidirectional and fabric prepreg, stitched and woven preforms, dry tow and prepreg tow filaments.
Resin systems will include epoxy, BMI, phenolic, cyanate ester, and various thermoplastics. Part lay-ups will be on flat and contoured tooling.
In addition of composite fabrication, the applicant should possess basic machining and finishing skills with both composite and metallic materials, such as deburring, sanding and grinding, drilling .
Experience machining composites or metals using a CNC, mill or lathe is not required but would be a plus.
Other duties include:
- Assembly and integration of composite parts using adhesives
- Reading Engineering drawings and work instructions
- Measurement and quality control
Qualifications and Requirements:
At least 3 years experience in production composite wet lay-up is required.
Must have mechanical aptitude, be able to read blueprints, use hand and power tools
Must be able to submit to and pass a background check
