LAUNCH to Present at Jackson Public Schools JROTC
Annual Aviation Career Exploration Day
LAUNCH, along with executives at Delta Air Lines, Boeing and FedEx, will be presenting at the Jackson Public Schools JROTC Annual Aviation Career Exploration Day on Friday, March 5, 2021. The JROTC is the largest youth development program in the United States. With units in over 3,400 high schools nationwide, it has more than 560,000 students enrolled in grades 9 through 12. The mission of JROTC is “To Motivate Young People to be Better Citizens” and the focus is leadership and character development. Students enrolled in JPS JROTC, like JROTC students across the nation, consistently reflect increased academic achievement, higher daily attendance rates, higher graduation rates, lower indiscipline rates and dropout rates compared to students who are not enrolled in JROTC.
The Annual Aviation Career Exploration Day is held to inspire young men and women in the JROTC to pursue a career in the aviation industry. Many students in the program receive scholarships through the US Military and go on to be officers, pilots, engineers and technicians. While the event will be virtual this year, the students will receive virtual tours of aircraft onsite with Delta Air Lines, Boeing and FedEx. In addition, LAUNCH President of Services & Chief Strategic Officer, Michael Lorenzini, will discuss the outlook for careers in aviation and the many job types available to those joining the industry. Together, these companies are working to encourage today’s youth to learn about careers in aerospace as they begin to think beyond high school.
LAUNCH is excited to be a part of this program again this year and commends Col. Paul L. Willis, the JROTC Director at Jackson Public Schools. After retiring from many dedicated years of service in the United States Army, Colonel Willis has devoted the last 17 years to advancing this program with Jackson Public Schools.
