Structural Engineer
LAUNCH Technical Workforce Solutions is seeking an Structural Engineer for an opportunity in Atlanta, GA.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelors degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Materials, or similar) from an accredited school is required. Additional graduate work or work experience related to fracture mechanics, structural mechanics, or materials is preferred.
- Ability to conduct structural analysis, Finite Element Analysis, and crack growth analysis using commercially available tools is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with material characterization techniques, and fractography, including experience with SEM operation, is also desirable.
- Must be physically able to perform all essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: • The ability to understand and create compliant Engineering documents and understand complex technical problems. • The ability to author Engineering Authorizations, with a working understanding of Airworthiness Directives, Federal Aviation Regulations, technical manuals, and aircraft maintenance programs. • Basic knowledge of transport aircraft structural design, aircraft load conditions, and mechanics of materials. • Strong verbal and written communication skills. • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Access). • Detail oriented, with a problem-solving background and strong analytical skills. • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of Maintenance, Planning, and Engineering, as well as representatives from the FAA and outside companies. • Strong time management skills, with the ability to take responsibility for multiple parallel projects with overlapping timelines.
Responsibilities:
- Primary responsibility is to coordinate metallographic investigations associated with airframe structure and systems.
- Additional responsibilities include developing, analyzing, and gaining FAA approval for supplementary inspection programs to Delta-designed major repairs and alterations.
- Ensures that structural repairs and alterations are structurally satisfactory for long-term service.
- Accomplishes analysis to comply with FAA mandated programs for Repair Assessment and changes to Supplementary Structural Inspection Programs.
- Interprets the potential effects between applicable Airworthiness Directives and specific repairs and modifications. Authors or revises engineering authorizations to accomplish inspections.
- Writes technical reports to document analysis, results, and conclusions, and checks technical documents from other engineers.
- Should demonstrate leadership capability applying technical knowledge and mentoring skills.
- Provides technical expertise to other engineering groups on damage-tolerant design.
- Accomplishes crack growth analysis, as needed, as part of Operational Support projects.
